How to Get a Driving License to Get Driving Jobs in the UAE

Driving in UAE is an exciting experience for some and frustrating for some others. The best part is that there are different public transport options available in the UAE which makes it convenient for the common people to travel on every day works to any location in the UAE. The richer class of people, of course, prefer to have their own personal drivers. Not to forget the numerous offices and organizations who require drivers on a continuous basis for driving-related office works. Accordingly, when it comes to driving jobs in the UAE, there are many to choose from.

Different types of driving jobs in UAE:

It is to be noted that there are different types of driving licenses required, depending on the type of vehicle used for driving in the UAE. As such, you will also find different types of driving jobs in UAE. Depending on the license you have, you can apply for the following driving jobs for various organizations, companies, hospitals, hotels, construction companies, including jobs as personal drivers
  • Motor cycle driving 
  • Light motor vehicle 
  • Heavy truck
  • Heavy bus
  • Mini bus
  • Shovel driving
  • Forklift

License Requirement for Driving Jobs:

To apply for the driving license and driving jobs in UAE, you need to be above 18 years of age. For all driving jobs in UAE, the candidates should have a valid driving license, a license that is valid for all UAE locations. International drivers can also apply for driving jobs but there are certain rules and regulations that need to be followed. 
  • International licenses for 36 countries are valid in UAE- This means that drivers of these 36 countries are not required to get any license specific to the UAE. They can use their driving license of their home counties. These countries are the United Kingdom, United States Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, and Denmark. Some other names include Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Kuwait, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Turkey.
  • Driving license holders of some countries as mentioned in the above list requires consulate or translations letters to apply for driving jobs. These include Canada, Cyprus, Poland, Greece, Canada, Turkey, Japan, and South Korea.
  • If the candidate belonging to any one of these 36 countries do not have a license of his home country, he cannot apply for driving jobs in UAE, unless and until he undergoes proper training in a driving school and gets a valid UAE driving license. 

How to apply for a driving license in UAE?

  • Register for a driving license course. The course can be taken up in one of the authorized driving schools. You need to open your RTA file. For driving jobs, candidates can register either for automatic gear driving license or manual gear transmission driving license.
  • It is to be noted that candidates who do not possess any driving license have to register for 40 classes before applying for driving jobs. Candidates with their home country's license have to take 30 classes (for the license of 2-3 years) or 20 classes (for driving license above 5 years).
  • You have to submit a passport, both photocopy and original, NOC from the employer and 8 passport-sized photos. 
  • You need to undergo an eye test and submit the report at your driving school.
  • You will first attend theory classes and then start taking your practical training classes. 
  • Then, you have to appear for the theory test on road signals, hazards, and safe driving guidelines. 
  • After passing the theory test, your practical training begins. 
  • Next, you have to register for your RTA parking test and assessment test.
  • Your highway training starts after clearing your assessment test.
  • Last, you have to appear for the final road test, where you have to demonstrate your driving skills in just a few minutes.

If you fail, you once again have to register with your driving school and attend at least 7 classes and get a new road test date. Once you pass the road test, you are eligible for your valid UAE license and you can start to apply for driving jobs in UAE of your eligibility.
